Did you know there is absolutely no reason to look up a recipe when cooking rice or quinoa for the fam? If you want fancy flavors, sure, knock yourself out. But, as far as proportions of water to starch go, all you need to remember is two to one.
I use the ratio of 2 to 1 for cooking all rice (even brown), quinoa, and lentils. 1 cup of water and 1/2 cup of rice or 2 cups water and 1 cup of rice, etc.
Isn’t that easy?
I also don’t set a timer, I just simmer on low till the moisture is absorbed then turn the heat off and leave the top on. When I’m ready to serve, I fluff the quinoa with a fork and go. Easy Peasy.
Try adding spices, sautéed onion, garlic, salt, a pat of butter, or splash of oil before things get boiling if you’re looking for a simple side dish with some flavor. I often serve chicken, pork chops, roast, or baked fish on a bed of brown rice or quinoa made this way. Super easy and healthy as can be!
